About Us
Here’s a concise history of our Deptford/New Cross family‑run launderette (famously at 369 New Cross Road, near Deptford):
- Origins in the 1960s: Established in the early 1960s as a father‑and‑son operation, part of a small local chain serving South East London.
- 1990s modernization: In the early 1990s, Joe (the founder’s son) bought and refurbished it—upgrading to modern machines and refreshing the interior.
- Family handover: Angelo took over in 2008, running the business until passing it to his nephew Marco in 2019—an example of the launderette “tradition” spreading through the family.
“It’s a contagious disease… it all started with my brother dating a girl whose father… owned a string of launderettes.
- Community hub & resilience: Over the decades, the launderette has served as more than a place to wash clothes—it’s been a convenient solution for residents in flats without dryers and hosts regular customers like “Bill from Austin House” who chat football each Friday
